Leadership and Involvement
I have proven my leadership and teamwork abilities through positions in the Aerospace Student Fee Committee and Cal Poly Space Systems. The roles I have held in these communities have given me experience in leading groups, training new members, coordinating activities, and working with a team and outside entities to develop and approve processes. Crucial to my development as an engineer, these commitments have given me valuable skills for team based projects, safe operations and practices, and organization workflow.
Cal Poly Space Systems (CPSS)

Cal Poly Space Systems is a student led club that designs and manufactures high power rockets and assists students in personal rocket certification projects through Tripoli Rocketry Association. As a member of CPSS I assisted in the development of several rocketry projects, and designed and built my own level 1 certification rocket. In October of 2014, I led a team of 8 new members in a cert rocket competition, teaching them how to work in the shop, layup composites, and design rockets. In my last year at CPSS, I held the position of Student Safety Officer (SSO); I managed all the safety documentation and was responsible for safe operations in a 40+ member club that utilized hazardous and flammable materials. I worked closely with Environmental Health and Safety to approve new procedures and assure that all risk was mitigated thoroughly.

The Cal Poly Aerospace Student Fee Committee provides funding for student clubs and projects, supporting the learn-by-doing atmosphere by allowing students to purchase necessary materials or services. My critical thinking skills were tested at each meeting, where students presented proposals for funding and explained their projects in depth. Along with judging proposals, as Treasurer I managed the committee's $20,000 in funding and allocated it to approved recipients. As Chair of the committee, I organized group meetings, led meetings and discussions, assisted students and clubs with their proposals, and adjusted committee policies to better reflect current philosophies.
